‘Sasthrajalakam’ - Three day Residential Workshop was organised in St. Michael’s College during 23 – 25th November 2018. The program was supported by State Institute of Educational Technology (SIET) and Directorate of General Education, Govt. of Kerala. The workshop was organised for the selected IX standard students from different government and aided schools along Alappuzha District, with the intention to create a research temper and motivation towards research activities in science. 43 students were registered for the program and they were selected based on a state-wide online test conducted by SIET.
On 23rd November the program was inaugurated in the seminar hall by Adv. A M Arrif MLA and the session was presided over by Smt. DaleemaJojo, Vice President, Alappuzha District Panchayath. College Manager Rev. Fr. Nelson Thaiparambil, Principal Dr. Mathew V, SIET Director Sri. B. Aburaj, IQAC Coordinator Prof. Riju Gregory, District coordinator K.M. Anilkumar, Sasthrajalakam programme coordinator Dr. Antony P.J. and Prof. Annie Jose K. were spoke during the inaugural session. Both theory and practical sessions in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology were included in the three day workshop. There were nine theory sessions in three basic disciplines and the sessions were conducted by the Assistant Professors from St. Michael’s College as well as other colleges. In the afternoon sessions of the three day workshop, more than 40 different amazing experiments were set up for hands-on-experience of the students. In addition a motivational ice breaking session was organised on 23rd evening by Sri. Sam Johnson, Assistant Professor in English and two hour cultural event on 24th evening by students of the college together with the workshop participants. The program was ended with a valedictory session on 25th evening which was presided over by the Principal Dr. V. Mathew.Certificate distribution was inaugurated by Smt. Beena Rani, Cherthala DEO and a felicitation was delivered by Sri. Krishnadas, Rtd. DEO.
